Your responses have helped us to identify the most important 'treatment uncertainties' or 'unanswered questions' for future research and to understand the perspectives of both 'providers' (healthcare professionals) and 'consumers' (patients and their carers) of healthcare. How did the survey responses inform these Top Ten Priorities?
The first survey, asking respondents for their ideas for future research in Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care, received almost 1,500 suggestions. These were classified and distilled into a shortlist of 92 'summary' questions. In the next survey, we asked people which of those 92 questions they thought were the ten most important ones.

The 25 most popular questions (i.e. those ranked as 'top ten' questions by the most respondents) went through to the Final Prioritisation Workshop, where they were discussed and debated among groups of stakeholder representatives. The stakeholder groups then came together and agreed the final 'Top Ten' research priorities using a modified Delphi process.

Those questions that didn't make the final Top Ten (or the final workshop) will still be collected in 'UK DUETs' (the UK Database of Uncertainties of Effects of Treatments) - an online repository organised by NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) where 'uncertainties about the effects of treatments are collected and published'. UK DUETs provides a rich resource for researchers looking for topics for future research, and we will submit every suggestion received (i.e. not just the top ten) to ensure that none of the proposed topics get forgotten.
