Launch of NAP 6: Perioperative Anaphylaxis

The RCoA is pleased to announce that the Sixth National Audit Project (NAP6) has launched as of 5 November 2015. NAP6 will run for one year and will examine Perioperative Anaphylaxis.

Perioperative Anaphylaxis is rare, however it can be life-threatening and lead to serious complications whose epidemiology and clinical impact are incompletely defined. NAP6 will collect comprehensive information concerning perioperative anaphylactic events, enabling the anaesthetic and allergy communities to collaborate in order to make recommendations for the improvement of the quality of patient care.

Prof Nigel Harper has been appointed as the Clinical Lead for NAP6 and will be working closely alongside Dr Tim Cook, Director for National Audit Projects (NAPs).

Following the excellent engagement from NHS hospitals with NAP4 and NAP5, we are pleased to report that 100% of UK NHS hospitals are now registered to take part in NAP6.

Local Co-ordinators will lead the Baseline Survey in November 2015 and the year-long data collection which will begin in November 2015. An Allergen survey will be carried out in Spring 2016.
