We are delighted to announce that Dr Iain Moppett has been appointed as Deputy Director of the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia's Health Services Research Centre (NIAA-HSRC).

Dr Moppett is Associate Professor and Honorary Consultant Anaesthetist at the University of Nottingham and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. His clinical and research interests include improving the safety, quality and efficiency of care for patients - his work leading a research programme into the perioperative management of frail elderly patients with hip fracture has been recognised with awards from the British Society of Orthopaedic Anaesthetists and the AAGBI.

Dr Moppett's appointment comes during an exciting new phase of the HSRC's development, with Dr Ramani Moonesinghe having recently taken up her post as Director and the recent appointment of three more research fellows who will join our current cohort of six. Dr Moppett already has experience with the HSRC-led National Audit Projects (NAPs), both as a local and national lead, and as a reviewer for NAPs 3 & 4. As BJA Grants Officer he is a co-opted member of the NIAA Research Council.

We are pleased to welcome Dr Moppett to the HSRC and are looking forward to working with him to develop our work to improve patient outcomes in anaesthesia, pain and perioperative care.
